On december 5th I learn that my mother is always right

On december 5th I learn that my mother is always right. She always told me "if you something you want get it right away and don't wait. If you wait you may miss the opportunity". Such a wise woman!

When "Irreverent" came out in October it was easy to get it on Amazon. And the price was reasonable - around 60€. Now, book is out of stock. Sure you can buy it on eBay for 300€, but at this price point I don't care.

Santa, if you hear me..."Irreverent" by Carine Roitfield is my 5th December Advent Calendar wish.

Back to old habits

I spend last few days in bed with some flu variation that literally swept me of my feet.

Given the amount of time I had on my hands I decided to put it for a good use…watching Gossip Girl season 4 all over again. Before this was the worst Gossip Girl season ever, now it’s the best. Mainly because I feel in love with Blair Waldorf (or should I write:  her wardrobe) all over again. God, Eric Damian is a master!
Latest craze – this Jenny Packham dress.

The good girl guide to bad books

I owe you my holiday book review.
Usually I take 2 chick lits and one more serious title. This year I decided to be girly all the way and I’ve learned my lesson.First one “Cocktails for thee” by Madeline Wickham it’s not even worth mentioning. I am really sorry but the book is dull and too predictable. It’s like this move you have already seen hundred times on tv but was never eager to watch it entirely.

Second book was far more interesting “The good girls guide to bad men” by  Jessica Brody. Already title is more intriguing. It starts very good. L.A, great girl, fidelity inspection agency… Beginning is funny , novelty is in the air, interesting intrigues are happening. But then somehow, as the plot goes further to main character personal life…well...you already know the ending and you just stop reading.

You see, lesson learned.  Next holidays I am bringing good old Scarlett O’Hara.

When Rihanna became a top model

Vogue US April 2011 cover

I got to see Rihanna Vogue US spread for April 2011 issue. It was shoot by Annie Lebovitz and it' pretty great. Not only Rihanna can make good music, she can also pose top model like! She is beautiful , has an unique presence in every photo and - what is really important to me - there is no photoshop work here. She has a perfect body and shows that size 0 and plastic photoshop shoots are ugly and boring in comparison. Bravo! We want more!

Two sides of one story

Emily Griffin" Heart of the matter"
I really enjoyed "Something borrowed/something blue" books from Emiliy Griffin so it was with great pleasure and expectations that I reached for her new book. I was not disapointed.

"Heart of the matter" walks us in the live of two women. Both are in their 30s, both have children and live in Boston. This is all as far as similarity goes. One is married, recently quit her job to spend more time with kids and husband and tries to fit in to new situation. Other is sngle, overprotective mom that concetrate all  attention on her kid in order to forget that in fact she has no life on her own. There is also a husband who is apparently lost between what he wants and what is expected of him. As you can imagine, there will be tears, suspitions, love affaire, hearts and illusions broken.

But this book is not an easy chick lit. It makes you wonder how you really know people around you and how much you are willing to forgive. Good book, I strongly recommend it.

You can get it this book  HERE - Heart of the Matter

Fashion x-rayed

Fashion X-rayed
Interesting exposition in Val d'Europe, few minutes from Paris. Concept: x-ray objects we use every day. Especially all that can be clasified as fashion and good brands. So we can see inside of a Dupont lighter,  Loutoutins, leather jacket and more.

I haven't seen it yet but I am definitely looking forward to it. Interesting experiment, but for now I cannot understand the purpose of the whole project. Maybe once I see the photos I will get it?

God bless Colin

Oscars are just few days away, so I am catching up on all  nominated movies. It's to bad some will be available in France early April...

This weekend  it was "The King's Speech" time. What a delightful movie! Fantastic cast, great script. Big moment in the history, important persona show as a human being. It does not happen often in the movies. I was mesmerised by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. They are my Oscar guys.

There is a dark side in all of us

The beauty of "The Black Swan" lies in the capacity of Aronofsky mind to link schizophrenia to one of the most popular ballet play. This is like linking the ugly side of mind to one of the most beautiful form of art.

The constant fight that every one of us is having between wrong and right, good and bad, our white and our black swan. It takes intelligence and audace to show a struggle that schizophrenia patient go through in a world of- what society sees as pure beauty- ballet dancers. Lonely girl in a route to perferction and succes. Wrong mother - daugther relations, very demanding maestro and jealousy  that drives you mad.

All in all, not my favourite movie. The scean when I feel I was touchning the essence was Portman reincarnation to black swan. Nathalie is withouth any doubt a star of this movie, but I certainly hope that it is not her role of a lifetime. I believe she is capable of something greater.

Going back to high school

Just finished reading " The Carrie Diaries" by C.Bushnell. I bought this book at the airport and figured out it would be a  perferct read for a boring flight and good disctraction from the reality. It turned out to be just that, plus I really enjoyed going back to Carrie Bradshaw world. Even if this time she took me to her high school and made me go back to my memories of this period of my life.

First thought - I wish I was as self aware and smart back in high school as Carrie was. Honestly reading this book made me realize how lost I was and that I really didn't know myself back then. Also, I was constantly worried about everything. Grades, boys, skin..I forgot to worry about myslef and figure out what I really wanted. I am glad I caught up with myself finally. Second though - polish high school is really not that different than the one in Castlebury. Characters, plots and situations are all the same. Maybe this is why I related so much to this book?

If you want a good and funny read I encourage you to grab this one. Or you could just wait till it hits the theatres. Yes, that i's right - they are making a movie! SATC Prequel.

Rumors has it that Blake Lively will play Carrie. It makes sense, right? However I doubt she will be wearing the same school uniform..

New discovery, good surprise

Olka Osadzinska is my favourite discovery of the moment. She has been around for a while now so shame on me that I discover her talent and her creations so late. Better late then never...

Osadzinska is a polish artists who specialise in illustrating fashion, style and design. Her illustrations are full of colour, expression and interpretation of the lives of others. Others in that case means mostly fashionistats. Young, active and original. I love her pieces because they make me want to move and go for it. If like the samples I show here, check Olka Osadzinska blog.

She will put colour and optimism to your life.

Where are you going lonely boy?

I have finally saw "Somwhere" by Sofia Coppola.

Critics and film industry experts have already written everything about that movie and it's possible that you have heard every interpretation and opinion there is. That is why I will only add two discussion points:

1. Is Chateau Marmont, legendary LA hotel, really so not- luxury-at-all inside? Is stories form the past and old, used furnitures really all there is?

2. Where is Stephen going in the last scene? And would you really leave your Ferrari by the side of the road?

love and other marketing strategies

Last weekend, driven by the need of movie date, I have convinced my boyfriend to see "Love and other drugs". I am normally not attracted by the chick flicks and romantic comedies, I find them just too previsible. Somehow I believed this one will be different. Of course it wasn't so I am starting to think I am just a victim of some markeing strategy that makes girls loose their heads once Jake G. is on the poster.Naked.

He is also naked in 40% of the movie. But that does not help. Nor does the good Annie H. role and the quite interesting plot. Somehow the movie feels flat. There are some moments where we can laugh politely and we can even shed a tear. But the ensemble is just not working as it should.

What did you think of this movie? Flat, interesing, cute abs Jake? Share with me!
And I promise not to be tempted by any movie poster, ever.

Diamonds are the girls best friend

Grand Palais in Paris holds exposition celebrating 125 years of italian jewelery brand Bulgari.

I saw it last weekend and came back mesmerized and in love with Bulgari designs. Also, new passion was found - jewelery design. Hard to believe it but I found it even more endearing that fashion design.
Imagine you have this perferc diamond in front of you, this perfect gift of nature and you need to be creative and delicate at the same time not to ruin it's beauty. I find this very inspiring and I belive jewelery designers are true artists, masters in their world.

Exposition itself is well ogranized leading visitor through the trur Bulgari story that began in 19th century in Grece. We learn the family history alongside with jewelery styles and fashion that changed over the years. I became particulary fond of 20s and 30s period with perfect diamonds and old school designs. I also admired use of new stones such as turqouise or white porcelaine.Of course there is also whole chapter devoted to Elizabeth Taylor, probably most famous Bulgari fan. My goodness, the women was blessed not only with beauty, talent and inteligence but also with some jaw dropping rocks.

I wouldn't mind some Bulgari for Christmas this year.

Bring your own book

Have you seen pictures of Natalie Portman from "Black Swan" premiere?
Remeber the clutch bag she was holding?

Natalie Portman in Dior/Olympia Le Tan clutch

When I saw this I could think of two things - really bad styling and great bad idea.
So I started to google and there I fund Olympia Le Tan!

I love the idea Olympia had for those bag. I think it's ultimate chic to go on a formal party holding your favourite book. Or any party for that matter. My personal favourite is Betty and Striptease ( I guess I have this thing for Simeon). I went to Collete this weekend to grab one, but prize ( areoun 1000€)  scared me off. Well, I add them to my wish list.

Tweet tweet little bird

Thanks to Fashonista I came across @NoBtotheS Twitter account and let me just say - it blows my mind.
Apparently the persona behing it is a New York fashion publicist that want to remain annonymous.
Well maybe she (he?) won't be spotted right away on the busy streest of NY, but  her (his?) post surely won't go unnoticed.

I am not that close to Fashion World to agree or disagree with presented point of view, however I find it really refreshing...and sometimes hilarious.

So please please tweet little bird, tweet...

Do you remember?

I haven't been around for a while and I apologise.
Sometimes you need to take a break, you know?

Let's get back on our feets, shall we?

First look at this editorial in December HB . Is this a new "it" girl? New, aspiring model?

No dear, it's Crystal Renn.

Yes the one who - as Fashionista pointed it out  - "" has come to symbolize the debate over size in the fashion industry. She’s vocal about her struggles with anorexia, made headlines when she spoke out against being photoshopped into a slimmer version of herself, and has become something of a spokeswoman to promote acceptance at any size."

Well, she is certainly not against Photoshop now, is she? Also, it looks like she is starving.
I am sad about this, I liked Crystal size 10/12 much better. And I believed her pictures more.

Bad cops, perfect Eva

The "Very bad cops" movie just hit theatres in France.
I am not a very big fan of this one, there is however one major advantage - Eva Mendes.
She is perfection!
And Will Farell is funny as usuall. : )

Life after

I am catching up on latest America's Next Top Model cycle. My modest opinion? It rocks! It's high fashion cycle with Italian Vogue cover as the main price. What that means for viewer - no cookie cutter faces, no catalogue photos, strong characters, no bordeom!

As the episodes go by and the girls gets eliminated I am starting to think - how is the life after the ANTM for those girls? Latest episonde striked me the most, when after being on the top, living in venice beach, having people interested in what you have to offer and finally - having Patrick Demarchelier photograph you another girl had to go back to "reality". This week it was Kacey. Can't believe how much force you need to have to go back to your life in small town and not to abandon your dream. Not to give up on being a model and go "jusqu'à bout"! I hope that each and every one of this girls will follow their dream and don't break down.

all the cycle 15 grils

Kacey left the show this week

One more question pops to my mind...When you can't stop watching the show and find yourself thinking about it more than any other thing it's time to stop right?
Ok, just this one more picture...Tyra Banks...the one, the only. Role model.
